3 Outfits To Wear Next Time You’re Crashing Out
Plus a Loewe Madrid bag review, luxe summer shoes, and more. It's For Your Consideration, Vol. 10!
Greetings, B Listers! Welcome to another wonderful edition of FYC, written on location from my restful Palm Beach getaway [I’m here for a wedding and working remotely].
I’ve been in quite the shoppy mood after strolling Worth Avenue and Royal Poinciana Plaza, so a letter such as this one comes easily this week. Originally, I thought I might hone in on the specific stores I’ve been shopping at in-person, but I chose to pivot for two reasons.
First, Loewe dropped a new handbag, and as someone who had the privilege of trying it pre-launch back in November, I felt I had to share my thoughts. Second, Gap’s Spring Style Event is happening now with 50% off site-wide, so I felt compelled to show off a few favorites after placing an order of my own. Come for the linen and poplin separates, stay for the handy guide to getting dressed mid-crash-out!
BTW — I daresay the designer drought has ended. Finally, some shit I want to buy! Brands like Prada, Fendi, and Ferragamo are dropping some of the best summer sandals I’ve seen in ages, and I’ve taken the liberty of rounding them up in hopes that someone else who’s also a size 7.5 might want to go halfsies with me on a few styles. Anybody??
All this and more for your consideration, below.
PSA — Gap’s site-wide sale is really, really good for anyone seeking easy summer sets. The declaration that Gap Is Back is hardly news at this point, but I don’t hear anyone shouting loudly enough about how good these separates really are. Especially for when one has no clue what to wear.
I’ve seen the phrase “crashing out” thrown around again and again on socials lately, and I can personally attest to the fact that that I never crash out harder than when I’m getting dressed and hate everything in my closet. How can I possibly be expected to function as a member of society when I have nothing to wear?
My solution? Always keeping a few safety sets on standby to style when said fashion crash-outs occur. Here, three of my Gap favorites, styled for days when you literally can’t even.
The Set: This Gap Organic Cotton Poplin Big Shirt ($55) with Easy Wide-Leg Pant ($34, was $70). It gives very much Scandi cool-girl vibes, and the loose-on-loose combo is perfect for those of us who tend to overheat when crashing out. I don’t want anything touching my skin!
The Styling: A Frame Denim x Ritz Cotton Baseball Hat ($148) because we’re simply not doing our hair, the Monty Domino Bag ($60) layered with a Grocery Bags Cognac Birkin Plastic Bag ($65) to actually hold our stuff, and these Aerosoles Leera Cork Sandals ($62, were $89), because we don’t wear heels whilst crashing.
The Set: The prettiest Gap Linen-Blend Shell Tank Top ($39, was $50) with matching Midi Skirt ($55, was $70). Something about neutral linen just screams, “I have my life together and I’m totally not crashing out right now.”
The Styling: The Cult Gaia Camilla Hair Clip ($198) to pull hair back, the J. Crew Hand-Knotted Straw Shoulder Bag ($118) accessorized with the Baublebar Eyes Off Envy Bag Charm ($24) to ward off future crash-outs, this Zara Pack of Bracelets ($35.90) to fidget with, and these Jeffrey Campbell WHELK-SH Sandals ($215) because they’re cute. Sometimes, that’s all it takes.
The Set: The Gap Linen-Blend Cap-Sleeve Cropped Top ($30, was $60) and Mini Skort ($47, was $60), because sometimes we have to go out even when crashing out.
The Styling: Layering on Jenny Bird jewelry to distract from our mental state, pieces like the Eliza Puff Earrings ($148) and Gia Anklet ($298) come in clutch. Avoid eye contact with the Miu Miu Regard Acetate Sunglasses ($530) and pack your Coach Cashin Carry Crescent Bag ($350) with aromatherapy oils (or my fave, the Origins Peace of Mind On-the-Spot Relief). Finish with Tory Burch’s Mellow Mary Jane Jelly Sandal ($198) for a comforting dose of elevated nostalgia.
I Tried On Loewe’s New Madrid Bag Months Ago
Let’s Talk Loewe! At a press preview back in November 2024, I got to try on the Medium Madrid Bag ($5,600), and it was an instant hit.
Ranging in price from $4,990-$6,600, the Madrid comes in three sizes and four colors: two different reds, a classic black, and an oh-so-Loewe olive green. I tried on the green in person and it was absolutely spectacular — the supple leather felt expensive AF, and the versatility of the strap made the price tag almost justifiable, had I not already purchased a Loewe Squeeze a year or two ago.
The Madrid can be carried on the shoulder, as a crossbody, or as a top handle bag, and unlike some bags that claim to be multi-functional, it actually looks great worn all three ways. I also immediately liked that the bag’s magnetic closure was the brand’s signature Anagram Pebble. It’s not a particularly hardwear-heavy bag, so this small detail really elevates the overall look.
The Medium Madrid was extremely spacious, but I can’t help but feel it might look bulky with summer styling — to me, the chunky trapezoid-esque shape makes it a better bag to be worn with layers. That said, the Small Madrid may be the answer to this concern. And I’ll by stopping in store soon to see if the Large fits a laptop!
Here’s a video of me trying it on back in November, for those curious. Overall, this bag gets a big Yes from me. Kudos to Loewe for always innovating. But also, shame on them for making me add another bag to my Want List.
Luxury Shoes Are (Finally!) Good Again
Anyone else about to drain their bank account in order to secure some summer sandals? My computer is running extremely slow as of late, primarily because I’ve had tabs open for these nine pairs of shoes since last week.
I just need a few more days to narrow down my options, and I’m pulling trigger! Here’s the potential lineup:
If you played mermaids in the pool as a child — or perhaps you’re having a beach wedding — the Chloe Sea Treasures Ballerina Flats ($1,050) are for you.
I have a pair of leopard pony hair Prada flats in this style that I absolutely love in terms of comfort and practicality, so the Prada Raffia Mary Jane Flat ($1,250) tempts me as a summertime swap.
High on the list of heels that will remain forever a want, never a need: Prada’s Colorblock Pointed Toe d'Orsay Pumps ($1,550). Very cute, but I just know the back of this shoe would murder my ankle. A reluctant pass.
Fendi’s FFold selection is really doing it for me lately. These Fendi FFold Sandals ($930)? A perfect summer staple with just the right amount of hardware.
If I were a party person, these Gucci Wedge Mules ($1,590) would be my shoe of the summer, full stop. They come in a ton of colors, and the lucite wedge looks so elevated with these ladylike buckles and closed-toe front. This olive green? Chef’s kiss.
My sister owns a pair of Fendi FFold Slingbacks ($1,190) and says they’re extremely comfortable, so these new two-tone woven versions really have my attention. I’ve included the blue-and-brown combo here, but it’s the white-and-matcha iteration that will hopefully make their way into my bridal wardrobe.
Not exactly a summertime shoe, but Ferragamo’s Eva Mule ($1,050) are too beautiful not to share. I know fringe of this level is simply not meant for city streets and grime, but I fear I may cave and pick these up if they go on sale before the fall.
I own these Stella McCartney Ryder Chain Loafers ($750) in an oxblood colorway and love them to death. Seeing them in the most perfect baby blue, I can’t help but wonder if my winter pair deserves a summer sister…
A shoe I’m most definitely buying: this Ferragamo Sandal with Graphic Detail ($980) — although I’ll be snagging the white, because #brideera #itsmywholepersonalitythisyear. I tried these on in store and they were extremely comfortable. It’s not often we get a baddie-looking sandal in a practical heel height, so I won’t waste this opportunity to indulge!
SYSS (Stuff You Should See)
My RPZL x Bella Gerard Bubble Hair Brooches ($24 for 2) have launched, and they’re honestly incredibly chic. You can shop gold, silver, or a mixed metal combo, which is my fave. The more, the merrier.
Dorsey’s Yves Paracord Necklace ($460), which launched as a Vogue exclusive but is now available to all, is high on my dream jewelry wishlist. It strikes the perfect balance between formal and wearable. I love a special piece that still suits everyday dressing! I recommend the lab white sapphires, as the lab diamond version will cost you $3,500.
Benefit Cosmetics dropped the product of the summer — meet the Hoola Wave Cream Bronzer Balm ($36)! The iconic Hoola formula deserved this modern upgrade, and she’s already become a staple in my routine as I attempt to fake a pre-summer tan.
I ordered the ROAME. Theodore Dress ($268) from Revolve for a Florida wedding welcome party and it greatly exceeded my expectations. If you need a fun dress, this is it! I got the Large and it fits like a glove.
