Another NYFW Week B Roll: Presentations, Runways, & All The Content In Between
A by-the-minute recap of what it's like to attend fashion week, ft. Lafayette 148, Melke, Markarian, AKNVAS, and the Black in Fashion Council showroom.
09.09.2
7:30AM - I wake up to the sound of Pats’s work alarm and decide to follow the same routine I’ve been loyal to all week: peeling off my Loops Beauty Dream Sleep slugging sheet mask, slapping on some Peter Thomas Roth Hydra-Gel Eye Patches, and scrolling.
7:50AM - My alarm rings out, and I wake up for real! I forget to take my morning supplements, but I do chug a Martinelli’s apple juice from one of those little glass jugs (Luxe!). I have no time to waste this morning, so I immediately begin getting ready.
8:59AM - I remember to post a video just before my phone’s 9AM reminder to do so goes off. It’s a Reel promoting Rakuten’s Fall Style Event — a genuinely superb chance to get 10% Cash Back on purchases from Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Urban Outfitters and Steve Madden (this isn’t part of the ad, but I felt you should know!). I’m the platform’s Shopping & Trend Advisor, so it’s my job to spread the word (you can sign up for free here, if you like).
9:30AM - Speaking of brand deals! I text a publicist to confirm the look I’m planning to wear today makes sense for the partnership I’m shooting for one of her brands.
9:32AM - Oops, it doesn’t work. Glad I checked! I panic-spend the next hour trying to figure out a look better-suited for the content I need to film.
I land on my trusty Awake Mode skirt (here’s a black one on sale), a Zara red knit, and my Vince Camuto boots. I throw a cashmere 2 Yard Wrap from Bleusalt overtop for a little added interest, and accessorize with a Fendi baguette (this one, but I nix the cage) and Ferragamo sunnies. It’ll do!
10:38AM - Too late now to take the train, I hop in an Uber to my first presentation of the day. I text my assistant, Emma, and ask her to pick us up some coffees.
11:09AM - I arrive at Kobrick Coffee and meet Emma. We start shooting some content for the partnership, but decide we’re better off hitting the presentation first, then looping back.
11:30AM - We arrive at Lafayette 148 for a gorgeous presentation. They’ve opted for mannequins instead of models, which I don’t always love, but the clothes are divine, so I let it slide. More icy blues and pale yellows like we’ve been seeing all week, and lots of gorgeous textures adding interest to wearable silhouettes.
I also spot Nicolette (of
) wearing the Bella Cuff in Silver which makes my morning.11:56AM - We depart Lafayette 148 and walk a few blocks into the West Village to shoot some content. Today’s partnership is with Fulton, who are debuting new Universal Insoles that I absolutely love. I typically buy my shoes a half size too big if I plan to wear them for fashion week, because I know my feet will swell from all the running around. This is the first year I haven’t complained about my feet hurting, and I genuinely think these insoles are to thank.
Speaking of thanks – having Emma as my assistant this season has made my life a billion times easier. We’ve shot three of my seven NYFW-related partnerships together over the past few days, and it’s so much better than filming with my tripod. Grateful for her!
12:31PM - We wrap up filming, grab Kendall, and hop in an Uber to the Melke presentation in Midtown.
12:57PM - We Arrive to Melke, which is themed as a book fair and adorable beyond words. Emma Gage, founder and designer, is always one to plan her presentations down to the details. From hand-painting the models’ Doc Martens to styling them with pencil-painted nails and rubber-eraser-cap jewelry.
1:10PM - A little behind schedule, we depart Melke for the Markarian preview.
1:20PM - We arrive at Markarian, a laid-back preview at which we browse racks of gorgeous dresses while a model slips in and out of our different selections. Markarian does the dreamiest pieces with real women in mind, and I instantly fall in love with about ten things, including a pale yellow dress with embellishments on the bust and at the hips that I’m still swooning over even as I type this.
1:53PM - We depart Markarian and head to Cha Cha Matcha, where Olivia introduces me to the Matcha Draft Latte and my life is forever changed. Â
2:01PM - Olivia tells us that Emergen-C is sending a car to take her to the AKNVAS show, so we join her en route. In the SUV, we’re introduced to the brand’s new Emergen-C Crystals, which are immune supplements for when you’re on the go. Olivia tries them and says they crackle like Pop Rocks, and that they taste delicious. I take a few extra packets in my bag for later in the week.
2:35PM - We arrive to Hudson Yards with time to kill before the AKNVAS show. We stroll the area and I see Will (@collectiveframes) yet again, who takes another great round of photos of me. I’m grateful to have such talented photographer friends!

2:55PM - We head upstairs for the AKNVAS show, and it’s like a fashion family reunion. Everyone is here! Lots of chatter and catch-up as we wait for the show to begin.
3:26PM - AKNVAS starts, and it’s another stellar show. Highlights include new iterations of the brand’s signature swan logo, itty-bitty shorts, and lots of pastel lace separates with 3D floral details.
Also, belts on bare skin with cutesy keychains attached. I like.
4:07PM - A gaggle of editors depart Hudson Yards and split an Uber down to Seaport for the Black in Fashion Council showroom. It’s consistently one of my favorite events of the season, and I relish the chance to get a few up-and-coming designers on my radar.
4.48PM - We arrive to the showroom and find a stellar curation of emerging brands. First up is Adore Adorn Jewelry, who’s gold vermeil pieces are nothing short of stunning. I make a mental note to consider getting the Oceanic Warp Earrings in White Rhodium as my end-of-NYFW treat.
Other lust-worthy items include Diallo’s vintage-inspired mesh jerseys, Arch’s Lovestruck Heels (the cutout in the heel creates a negative space heart, how sweet!), and pretty much everything from Atelier Ndigo, but the Efe Skirt certainly stands out for me as a gal with love on the brain.
5:20PM - We wrap up at the BIFC showroom and I walk with my friend (and stylist extraordinaire) Vanessa to the train while we compare Tuesday schedules.
5:53PM - I’m on the train and en route home! I text Pat to prep the chicken for the cutlets I plan to fry for dinner, and mentally brace for a long night of cooking, editing, and writing. I end up working until around 11:30PM, when I decide to hit the hay and sort the rest out in the morning.
