I Found My Wedding Dress In One Week
Here's how it went (plus everything I tried on, but didn't get).
It’s finally time for me to wholly and unapologetically enter my Bride Era. Prepare to be sick of me!
While I’ve already booked a few major wedding essentials — the venue, the band, a pastry chef to fill and distribute mini cannolis on the dance floor — I’ve been seriously slacking when it comes to my bridal look.
Frankly, the idea of dress shopping stressed me out. From there, I didn’t feel I could book hair or makeup without knowing what would best suit my mystery gown.
Finally, I’m happy to report I’ve find my dress. And after all that, it only took me a week!
OK, I only gave myself a week. When it comes to big decisions (especially of the shopping nature) I often suffer from The Burden of Knowing Too Much. I knew trying on too many dresses would overwhelm me, so I limited my search to a few choice showrooms and salons, with a weeklong timeline for try-ons.
Here’s how that went.
Firstly, let me reiterate how deeply nervous I was to begin the process of shopping for a dress. I’m fresh off a 50lb weight loss, and I feel more confused about my body than ever. Grateful for all it does, yes, but admittedly a little disillusioned with how it looks. I’m smaller than before, but everything feels flatter and flabbier than it once did. I’ve never felt so insecure, and I couldn’t imagine finding a dress that would make those insecurities vanish.
Especially since my Wants list was kind of all over the place. Behold, the bridal mood board I showed the attendants at all my appointments:
